Tailored Lessons to Help You Pass Your Featherstone Driving Test
Learning to drive in and around Featherstone presents its own specific challenges, but with Rio Driving School you’ll be fully prepared for everything the local roads can throw at you. Our experienced instructors know the Featherstone test routes inside out, from narrow rural lanes to multi-lane roundabouts, and they’ll guide you through each step with confidence.
We’ll take you through the exact areas you’re likely to face during your test, making sure you’re not just test-ready, but equipped for safe, smart driving beyond the test centre.
Our driving lessons cover the key locations around Featherstone and surrounding roads that have proven tricky for many learner drivers including:
1. Cat and Kittens Lane – Spot the Speed Change Early
Turning left out of Featherstone Test Centre, you’ll immediately be on a national speed limit road – a quick start that demands sharp observation. As the road narrows, we enter a 30mph zone where many learners are caught out by not reducing speed early enough. We’ll practise this transition repeatedly, so your reactions become automatic.
2. Northycote Lane Hidden Roundabout – Don’t Miss It
Further along, Cat and Kittens Lane becomes Northycote Lane, where a nearly invisible roundabout awaits. Learners often miss the warning signs, with the only clue being a distant yellow bollard. If you’re asked to turn left, your approach line is critical. We’ll help you read the road well in advance and use the sat nav as a backup cue to reduce surprises.
3. Legs Lane Roundabout – Lane Discipline is Crucial
Just after Northycote Lane, you’ll reach another roundabout on Legs Lane. The road markings are easy to ignore, but doing so can be a test-failing error. We’ll train you to obey markings instinctively and teach you how to recover safely if you’re in the wrong lane, rather than forcing a dangerous manoeuvre.
4. A460 and New Road – Box Junction Awareness
Heading through the lights at the New Road and A460 intersection, many learners stop over the solid white line or block the box junction. This is a classic Highway Code rule 174 violation. We’ll coach you to recognise these restrictions and plan your stop early — especially when traffic flow is unpredictable.
5. M54 Roundabout from A460 – High-Speed Hazards
Approaching the M54 roundabout from the A460, correct lane choice is vital. Learners often find the right-hand lane stressful due to fast-moving traffic. To complicate things further, cars in the left lane sometimes go straight instead of exiting. We’ll teach you how to anticipate poor driving from others and position yourself safely with confidence.

Gary is a second to none driving instructor. I’ve been with Gary for almost 3 years now and every lesson I’ve felt more and more confident. He is a great teacher and a patient person who will make sure you get where you need to be with your driving. Can’t praise him enough!!
I have just passed my test and couldn’t have done this without my instructor Gary of Rio Driving. He is very patient and helpful, particularly when I have been very anxious when driving. I would highly recommend Gary as an instructor to anyone who is a little fearful of driving! For me, Gary always made driving lessons fun, easy and relaxed. Thanks for all of your help Gary you’re the best!!!! 😀
Gary was an exceptional tutor; he gave me the required confidence and ability to pass my test first time! Thank you Gary for all your help and support.
Passed my driving test today after having lessons with Lee. He’s a great instructor and helped me build my confidence with driving massively. He’s a credit to Rio Driving School.
I passed my driving test today 12/10/24 and my instructor Garry has been an absolute great help throughout my time being a learner. He goes through absolutely everything in great detail and has great techniques for parking exercises which when it came to my test I absolutely smashed it. Wouldn’t have passed without him.
Gary was great straight from the beginning.I was given his number by a family member and he was quick to answer and get my first lesson booked. Whilst driving I was always instructed on the correct way of doing everything. Booking the lesson was really easy to I was always given plenty of availability whenever I asked. Doing the driving test was really good as well I had taken my test 4 times before but after lessons with Gary I passed 1st try. I would personally recommend Gary for anyone to learn to drive or to help you pass your test.
